Earlier this week, H2k Gaming announced
on it's website that the team was pulling out of the IEM European
Championships due to Mattias "Snajdan" Andersen being ill
and unable to travel. With the event held this week-end, the ESL had
little time to come up with a backup plan, but has now revealed the
identity of H2k's replacement in the form of fellow Swedish team Meet
Your Makers.
H2k, which had been boot camping at Inferno Online in Stockholm in preparation for the European Championships, was already aware of Andersen's condition, but mentioned that his illness had gotten worse during their time practicing. The team has published this official statement on its website:

"It is with great sadness that we
have to announce that H2k will not be able to attend the Extreme
Master 4 European Cup which is due to start on the 14th until the
18th of January.
H2k Gaming have been at Inferno Online, in
Stockholm, the last few days in order to practise for the event.
However, one of the players, Mattias 'Snajdan' Andersen, showed up
ill, and his condition worsened throughout the practise time. Mattias
was sent to the hospital to be treated and is not allowed to leave
the country."

The next team in line for the spot, MYM.swe, who was the runner-up in the tournament held to select a replacement for Danish side SoA, seemed the logical favorite to substitute H2k. Finally laying the rumors to rest earlier today, Michal "Carmac" Blicharz, product manager for ESL, has officially confirmed MYM as the 6th team in Group A to HLTV.org. It should also be noted that the Swedes, who had to release a key player in Andreas "moddii" Fridh earlier this week due to his conduct within the team, will be adding Emil "FYRR73" Karlsson, ironically a member of H2k, as their fifth player for the event.
The Meet Your Makers organization, which has recently risen back from its grave after shutting down earlier this year, has had an impressive run so far with their new line-up and should look to repeat their strong performances regardless of their recent roster changes. With two stacked groups at IEM, only time will tell if they will be able to live up to the expectations. |
